A Loire Castle in Anjou

As the last of the great Loire castles downstream, Serrant boasts over 500 years of history, from its medieval moats to the lanterns atop its towers. Begun under François I and completed under Louis XIV, it presents a harmonious blend of Renaissance and Classicism in its architecture. Purchased by an Irish family in 1749 who embellished and preserved it through the Revolution, the castle underwent significant renovations in the 19th century under the guidance of a great art enthusiast: the Duke of La Trémoïlle. Today owned by his great-granddaughter, Serrant remains one of the largest inhabited Loire castles all year round.

A inhabited and fully furnished castle

Serrant houses one of the largest private collections of furniture and artworks in the Loire Valley. Throughout the rooms, a tour of the castle allows visitors to admire rare furniture, family portraits, ancient tapestries, precious objects, and rare books. From the kitchens to the library rich with 12,000 books, passing through the grand salon and its famous ebony cabinet, nothing has changed for over a century, allowing visitors to experience castle life as if they were there!
